  • A Cambodian Cookie of Excellence!

There are some tough things about living in Cambodia. My fear of being impaled by long metal object traveling in front or behind me is a regular occurance. My fear of failing my co-workers and students is another. My fear of sickness surfaced yesterday, yet kind words and plenty of fluids seemed to have checked it. Another fear is around the significant events I'm missing in the lives of my niece and nephews and the rest of my family.

Yet, I sense I'm to be here at this time living alongside and sharing community with others in Cambodia.

Okay now... I do have some tools beyond internet communication tools and diversions to help me face down my fears in this place. I take much comfort in this delicious treat Vissot's Peanut Crumbles!

I've shared my delight in these peanut brittle-like snacks with many. I was happily surprised to discover that a co-worker, Sok Cha, was the peanut buyer and in quality control for several years for Vissot Health Foods.

Today he took me to the factory... bliss! They have several products I haven't tried so I went on a shopping spree there... retail therapy!!! Co-workers had asked me to pick up some cookies for them too... they will share and they'll tell two friends and so on. It would be wonderful to see this NGO enjoy smashing success with this project.  I like it because it employs students and women.

In spite of my fears of being ineffectual here... I am experiencing much, very much joy. Simple joys, it is true, yet meaningful and delicious joys.

May your day be marked by moments of bliss, be punctuated by laughter and saturated by contentment!

You give your time and your person to help Cambodians to live and know Jesus .
However all mission must have an end and sometimes we have to go elsewhere.
you can be useful in Canada too , I think .. How much time your mission in Cambodia lasts ?
Suzanne I never remember if you speak French.
Merci pour tes gentils souhaits .

    Amitié

@fauquet - Thank you for your blessings of peace and joy... I'm in Cambodia on a two year contract... I will review at the one year mark.

My French in minimal... sadly... yet I am a Francophile and try to recreate moments that return my heart to Savoy/Provence/Cote d'Azure as often as possible... Cafe au lait & Pain au Chocolat for breakfast can do this... harvesting lavender does this... and Picasso's myth sketches take my mind back to Cap d'Antibe instantly and the smell of the dusty stone stair way... and if I hum Sur le Pont D'Avignon...  it as if bits of my heart find their way "home".

Reading your posts take me to the quiet contentment that is mine when I remember my 5-month stay in Albertville 1982 when I was 17 years old... I've been back twice in 1996 and in 2006 and each time joy is mine. I fell in love in France... not with a person but with the place... and the love remains!
